Conference of “Doğunun ve Batının Büyük Sultanı: ALPARSLAN”

As part of the 2nd anniversary event of Research Center of Seljuk and Menzikert Studies (SEMAM), on Thursday, 05.03.2020 at 13:00, in Auditorium of Sebahattin Zaim, a conference on “Alparslan, the Great Sultan of the East and the West” was held by Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Alican.

In the conference where academicians and students from various departments of our university participated intensively, the opening speech was made by the director of Researh Center of Seljuq and Manzikert (SEMAM) Instructor Member Murat Alanoğlu made it. After starting his speech by wishing God’s mercy to the soldiers who were martyred in the Spring Shield Operation in Syria and success to the TAF personnel, Alanoğlu talked about the activities of SEMAM during the 2 years since its establishment and talked about the projects that will be implemented by the center in the future.

Invited to the podium to give his speech titled “Doğu'nun ve Batı'nın Büyük Sultanı Alp Arslan”, Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Alican started his speech with the importance of historical consciousness and the effect of this consciousness in the process of state, homeland and identity formation. Afterwards, Alican stated that leaders emerged as saviors at a time when the crisis and crisis process of nations and states were most severe in history. He drew attention to the historical personality, character and guiding role of Islam in the history of Islam. Later, Alican talked about Alparslan’s life, activities and piety as the Sultan of Islam and emphasized the importance of Sultan Alparslan in history with a few examples. In the last part of his speech, Alican referred to the Manzikert Victory, which Sultan Alparslan led and distinguished as a historical hero. He finished his speech by mentioning the role of this victory in the Islamization and Turkification of Anatolia and its short and long-term consequences in world history.
